Nostalgix Base Set
Nostalgix Base set contains 185 cards ranging from cute and adorable Lucky Frogs to intimidatingly powerful beasts like the Booster Box Dragon and Gametron. There is truly something for everyone in this set and as such it is the foundation of the entire Nostalgix Trading Card Game. Fusing multiple nostalgic gameplay mechanics from across the multiverse of TCG’s this may be the most well-rounded Base Set ever created!
Foundational Card abilities
Binding
When this Hero or Fighter attacks, the opponent’s defending Hero or Fighter is bound in place and is unable to attack during their next turn.
Deathtouch
Any damage this Hero or Fighter deals to a Fighter destroys the defending Fighter. Heroes are immune to Deathtouch.
Lifetouch
Any damage this Hero or Fighter deals with attacks also heals your Hero by an equivalent amount.
Taunt
The Hero or Fighter with this ability must be attacked before non-taunt targets.
Game-Changing Combos
make your own luck
When you evolve Koukou into Chronokou you unlock the ability to look at the top 3 cards of your deck and put them back in any order. Not only does this ability tie in perfectly with its Chains of Time attack, it also allows you to make your own luck in a sense. Suddenly cards like Lucky Draw and Alternate Timeline are less of a shot in the dark and more of a tactical move from someone 4 parallel universes ahead of their opponent.
What to do: Evolve Koukou into Chronokou. Use its ability to look at the top 3 cards of your deck, rearrange it so the highest cost card is now on top of your deck. Attack with Chains of Time, adding that top card’s mana cost to its base attack of 3. Then use Lucky Draw, draw that same card and deal its damage to anything you’d like! Two stones, 1 bird. Follow it up with Alternate Timeline to really fly the combo home. Draw the last two cards you glimpsed and discard whichever one you don’t want leaving your opponent’s strategy of taking out this time traveling bird safely in the past.
Sly as a fox
Foxes are one of the most playful subtypes in Base Set. Meaning the more of them you have in play, the more fun you’re having. Stack-O-Fox exemplifies this subtype because whenever it attacks, it summons a Fox Token friend to fight alongside it. What’s better than that!? How about the fact that its Stack Attack deals 1 more damage for each other Fox you have in play. Now this is a party.
The only logical thing to do next is start giving everyone a matching Team Uniform which gives its wearer +1ATK for each Fighter and Token you control (including its wearer) and start an esports team because this is about to get crazy. Let’s take a head count.
Your first Stack Attack now does 4 damage (+1 from Team Uniform) and summons a Fox Token after dealing damage. Your next turn rolls around and you use Stack Attack again. This time you are dealing 6 damage (+1 other Fox, +2 from Team Uniform), and then summoning another Fox Token! Not to mention, you can attack with that first Token one you summoned, so we’ll round this up to 7 damage done. Turn 3. You use Stack Attack a third time. It now does 8 damage (+2 other Foxes, +3 from Team Uniform) plus you attack with your first 2 Fox Tokens bringing your damage output to a whopping 10! Someone queue the GIF of all those domesticated foxes snuggling people.
Magnetic draw power
You’ve summoned all your Fighters and now your hand is critically low on cards with no Lucky Frog in sight. What’s a Hero to do? We’ve got you covered. With a bit of ingenuity, Magnet Storm and Just Desserts can turn your stacked army into a card drawing machine.
By using Magnet Storm, you can intentionally damage all of your Fighters in play (and your opponents for that matter) and follow up this barrage of Buckybots with a Just Desserts allowing you to draw a card for each of your damaged Fighters, which just so happens to now be all of them. Lunch is on the house.
Playable, Collectable.
We’ve made every attempt to make Nostalgix both playable and collectible. We’ll never hide a card ability behind a paywall, instead opting to make exclusive alternate arts of lower rarity cards in each set.
Check out of respective Player and Collector quick guides below to see how Nostalgix is the best of both worlds.
Base Set Editions & Releases
Base Set features 185 diverse cards and comes in 10 card booster packs, 36 pack booster boxes and special blister packs with a 1 in 100 chance at pulling an artist signature card! As this was our first foray into the Trading Card Game scene our Base Set arrived in various forms during its development, let’s dive into the specifics so you know which editions are most collectible and playable.
Prototype Era
The prototype era for Base Set occurred during late 2021 and consisted of hand-packed cards sent to backers of our Patreon at the time. Common and uncommon cards during this era were non-holographic and glossy like a playing card. Holographic cards (including void and gold rares) were fully rainbow holographic and also glossy like a playing card. Each of these is a 1/75 as only 75 full sets of prototype cards were made.
In addition to these fully holographic versions, we also worked with a 2nd printer to create 4 copies of each holographic rare, void rare and gold rare card with selective holographics. You can tell these exceptionally rare cards apart from the other prototypes because each card has raised printing, selective holographics and the prototype era ‘Day Zero’ logo.
Kickstarter Era
From here on it gets easy to distinguish card versions. Our Kickstarter exclusive version of the game featured a new Day Zero logo and had a print run of 5,500 boxes, with 500 of those being used for marketing and promotion of the game.
Worldwide Era
Our 1st Edition version of the Base Set is the first version of Nostalgix available to worldwide audiences outside of our Kickstarter. It is the current foundational version of the game played and available in stores worldwide. To further distinguish this version of the game and further entice collectors we changed the six Void Rare Fighters in 1st Edition making new arts just for this 25,000 booster box run.
