The Region of Kerion
Living in Kerion
When you become a resident of Kerion, you receive food, drink, a home, and everything you need every day; but, at the same time, there's a bounty put on your head. The starting bounty is 5,000 empires - the currency of Kerion. You can try to live a normal life, or you can try to hunt and live a life of luxury. When you hunt, you receive money that you can spend on better weapons, a feast, or even a better home. Those who get bored with their monotonous life often uproot everything to try and hunt others. Obviously as you hunt, your bounty increases and increases until you become someone very important and everyone is after your own head.
There are some restrictions as well, the most notable two being: you can't kill a family member and claim their bounty; and you can't kill anyone under 20 years old. For this system to work, communication is crucial since the wanted posters must be capable of being seen by everyone. For that, there are couriers protected by the empress who are responsible for updating the boards (which are full of posters). To make the high bounties more recognizable, only rewards starting at 100,000 empires are announced. The more valuable you are, the more golden your wanted poster becomes. But, there's one wanted poster that's everywhere… Rei'la's. If you kill the Solar Empress, you automatically become the new Emperor/Empress. Be my guest, many have tried and failed. She has enough power on her own to take down any bounty hunter.
So what happens should you surpass the Empress in your own bounty? A fight to the death will take place her to decide who will take the position of emperor/empress of Kerion. To ascend in society, bounty hunters join alliances and share the rewards they get, making it a bit easier to live in this inhospitable place. Such is life in the Sun Empire.
Geography & Climate
Kerion is a vast desolate desert located in the southeastern quadrant of Nosteram. It’s bordered to the north and east by the dense forests of Daba, the mines and mountains of Qiar and the volcanic region of Ignes. To its west lies the pirate domain of Olkia. Due to its proximity to many regions it has a sufficient level of technology throughout it and is scattered with clay and stone built cities of various sizes. The desert is host to many oasis for the local fauna and flora of the region. Biceptus and Pecti litter the desert, a natural continuation of the kill or be killed mentality about the region. The cacti are in an ongoing war of eliminating their own species for greater glory. West of Kerion, in the sea between it and Olkia reside the mobfish Morang and his posse along with King Stingarr, a terrifying deep sea crew that occasionally terrorize the coastline’s inhabitants and any passing vessels.
In the central region sits The Eclipse Tower, a vast pyramidal temple that serves as both the academy for the magically gifted Nora in the region. It doubles as a worship center for the gods of Kerion: Lunairia and Solairon, also known as the Eclipse Twins.
